JUAN GALIARDO QUARTET
Juan Galiardo from Seville leads this collaborative project with support from two fine Wales-based musicians. Juan is a member of an acclaimed jazz ensemble on the Spanish scene, the Arturo Serra Quartet, who together provide a brilliant musical partnership having played festivals throughout Spain and Gibraltar, and across Europe.
Here Juan and Arturo make a welcome return visit to Wales following their sell-out concert at the Brecon Jazz Festival in 2013.
Juan Galiardo has performed in the USA, Phillippines, Japan and across the UK and Europe. He has organised and taught the "Cádiz International Jazz Workshop" at Cádiz University, and works regularly with renowned artists such as Jerry Bergonzi.
Arturo Serra teaches jazz improvisation courses and plays percussion in the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra. His influences and ‘musical quotations’ are from artists such as Mulgrew Miller, Pat Metheny, Barry Harris and Kenny Barron.

The evening also features a 'double bill' special, which includes the Cardiff University Big Band together with guest vocalist - Alexa Dene. This is also a return visit to Brecon for the Big Band after a storming performance in the Jazz Festival 2012. The band comprises the best in new jazz talent from the University scene. The full line-up is an auditioned 18 piece band. They perform challenging, high quality jazz compositions across the UK.
