This years festival opens with LIANE CARROLL SOLO in CONCERT  ('vocals, keys, stories, and much more') leads a charitable 'SIDE BY SIDE' fundraiser concert in aid of HUMANITARIAN AID TO REFUGEES: Friday 9th August, 6.00-7.15pm at St Marys Stage. (Tickets £15). Not to be missed! Liane has been a pillar of the British jazz and soul scene for over thirty-five years, and we are very pleased that she has found time to visit Brecon in between a very busy summer schedule.
Things really get going on Friday night following Liane's concert, with an amazing FESTIVAL BIG BAND  led by UK trumpeter Steve Waterman on Friday, 8.30pm at the Castle Hotel (meal at 7.30pm) with a stellar lineup: see all details on www.breconjazz.org. The music and concerts go right through until Sunday night. Here are some of  highlights not to missed, as many making their only UK appearance this year.
SATURDAY 10th5:00pm  features the incredible BARBARA DENNERLEIN TRIO. At Guildhall- Only UK date

Mention of the Hammond in Jazz and Barabara Dennerlein’s name comes up. The iconic B3 is associated with 'greats' such as Jimmy Smith, Joey Defrancesco, Rhoda Scott, Jack McDuff, Shirley Scott et al. Barbara has achieved particular critical acclaim for her use of the bass pedalboard on a Hammond organ, and for integrating synthesizer sounds with the instrument. One the foremost jazz organist to emerge on the international scene.

andSUNDAY 11th 4.00pm a tribute to Django Rheinhart by the amazing STOCHELO ROSENBERG QUNITETTE. At Theatr Brycheiniog - Only UK date.

Known globally as the ‘first family’ in gypsy jazz, the Rosenbergs represent the 'essence of gypsy jazz', the members of the Rosenberg Quintette have played for over twenty-five years, with all the great musicians, at many major Festivals and international venues– including for a magical New York celebration at Carnegie Hall of the legendary violinist Stephane Grapelli for his 85th birthday.

Note that, as ever, accommodation is quite tight in town, but there are many holiday lets, camping areas, guest rooms and air B&B spaces in the surrounding areas and county, so make sure you can take advantage of the whole festival if you can. If you are coming over to Brecon on Friday (9 August) the Festival opens at 12.00 with Brecon Town Concert Band. At 1pm there is a talk given by international guitarist MACIEK PYSZ, and at 2.15pm, a wonderful concert with jazz clarinettist SAMANTHA WRIGHT's QUINTET. Presented with support of the Jazz Promotion Network - the band are now based in Hamburg.

There'll be activities, events and much more music around the town, with a Carnival 'Frazz' parade on Saturday, market stalls and an outdoors visitor environment with the roads closed and the streets open. All our venues are nearby and accessible. We are also helping to programme the outdoor stage, so expect jazz there too!
